Putnam County School District in Florida identified the need to install approximately 6,200 square feet of safety and security window film throughout a newly constructed school as part of an ongoing rebuild project. As campus safety concerns at educational facilities continue to rise nationwide, the district sought to proactively reinforce vulnerable glass doors and windows across the campus.
The goal of the project was to strengthen glazing to help delay forced entry, providing first responders with critical additional response time during a potential active threat. Reflective mirror style window film also needed to be installed in select high occupancy areas to enhance privacy.
Florida-based Ausley Construction Company coordinated the request for safety and security window film as part of the district’s rebuild efforts. The company selected IES Window Films to install the film.
Campus Safety: Film Solutions
After evaluating available campus safety and security window film options and reviewing special conditions related to the building’s construction, the project team elected to move forward with multiple window film solutions from Solar Gard to meet the facility’s safety and privacy requirements.
Sentinel Plus Silver 20 Privacy Window Film, 8 mil TrueVue 15 Security Window Film, and 8 mil Armorcoat Clear Security Window Film were selected as the best fit for the project. An Impact Protection Adhesive was incorporated into the installation to significantly enhance the overall strength and performance of the security films by improving glass retention upon impact.
Campus Safety: Project Challenges
Despite having an efficient, turnkey installation plan in place to enhance campus safety, I.E.S. encountered several logistical challenges during the seven-day project timeline. Because the facility was undergoing a full teardown and rebuilding, multiple construction trades were actively working on site throughout the installation period.
Uneven terrain, airborne construction particulates, and the need to meet new construction quality standards required IES Window Films to adapt quickly while maintaining installation precision. To ensure consistent progress and minimize disruption, the IES Window Films team prioritized clear communication and coordination with Ausley Construction Company and Putnam County School District representatives.
Establishing a strong working rapport with onsite teams was critical to maintaining workflow efficiency and ensuring the installation was completed without interfering with other phases of construction.
Campus Safety: Project Outcome
Despite the multi-product scope the challenges encountered during installation, IES Window Films completed the project within seven days – successfully meeting the client’s timeline without compromising quality or performance standards.
I.E.S. successfully delivered a safe and uniform solution that addressed the Putnam County School District’s goal of mitigating substantial risk to students and staff. The project was completed efficiently and met all safety and performance expectations for the campus.
“The safety and security of the American public is very important to I.E.S., and we look forward to our next opportunity to provide our services in the hopes of supporting safer learning and working environments,” the company said.
