A window film, sometimes referred to as a tint, is a thin laminate film that can be installed on the interior or exterior of glass.
Many traditional window films that reject heat are tinted dark, use metal and can be highly reflective. 3M™ Prestige Series and Ultra Prestige Series films use non-metalized, multi-layer optical films that are constructed to achieve a combination of advantages – including lowering heat, reducing glare and blocking harmful UV rays. Because of their non-metallic structure, our films don’t impact window aesthetics, aren’t susceptible to corrosion and don’t interfere with electronic device signals.
As mentioned, 3M’s film is constructed using several layers. What sets 3M’s Prestige Series films apart is the precision with which light waves are controlled as they pass through or reflect off each of the layers. Most other window films are tested when the sun is perpendicular to the window. But 3M™ Prestige Series films are tested and perform best when the sun is high, at the hottest part of the day.
3M™ Safety & Security Films are built to be strong and nearly tear resistant. After impact, the film works by firmly holding together shattered glass fragments, preventing the glass shards from flying and hurting people or damaging property. The film’s performance increases when it is paired with an Impact Protection Adhesive, which firmly attaches the film to the edge of the glass frame.
