Answers To Your Frequently Asked Questions

Deciding to install window tinting on your home, office or car will not be an investment that you regret. At IES Window Films, we have installed tinting on auto, residential and commercial customers’ glass doors and windows and they have witnessed, first-hand, the impact that 3M™ Window Film can have on reducing heat, lowering high energy costs, preventing glare and slowing fading. Here are some answers to questions that we get all of the time from customers considering window tinting for their glass.

Window film is a laminate of strong polyester and/or metalized coatings bonded by adhesives. There is a scratch resistant coating on one side, and a mounting adhesive layer and a protective release liner on the other side. When the release liner is removed, the side of the film with the adhesive is applied to the interior surface of the glass.

Solar radiation from the sun is divided into three components: visible light we can see, and infrared and ultraviolet rays that we can only feel. As solar radiation strikes a piece of glass, window film blocks UV rays to regulate the level of light and heat that passes through. The amount of heat and light rejected is all dependent on the type of window film selected.

3M invented window film more than 50 years ago and it’s been the industry leader ever since. 3M makes unbeatable solar, security, decorative and automotive films. Plus, it offers some of the best warranties available.
Window film can be clear, colored or patterned to blend with various design schemes. Various thicknesses are available for solar, safety or security applications. The type of film you choose will determine the way it affects your view, but rest assured that it will make the room more comfortable. Window films can also help prevent glare.
Most window films installed by IES are backed by a Lifetime Manufacturer’s Warranty against crazing, peeling, demetalizing, bubbling, delaminating or discoloring.
The experienced team at IES can install window film on virtually any size and shape of flat glass windows.
In commercial applications, window film typically pays back its cost in energy savings in fewer than three years. Not only can you expect lower electricity bills, but window film can also help extend the life of your HVAC system. Plus, it creates a more comfortable environment for your employees and customers.
Made with heavy duty polyester bonded by strong adhesives, security window film provides a powerful barrier that helps hold glass in place should an impact occur. No matter what the source of impact – natural disaster, crime or vandalism — security window film will help control and even eliminate the danger and damage caused by broken glass
Privacy is greatly dependent on your lighting situation and window layout. IES will advise you on how much privacy can be achieved while maintaining good light levels. Often windows can be made completely one way.
There are some restrictions on what film can be applied to tinted glass but we can substantially reduce your incoming heat and glare.
